adventure day: little zoo!

So how was the zoo, you ask?

Completely awesome.  So much fun.  It's just this teeny tiny little local place two minutes away from the pediatrician, but teeny tiny is perfect for this kind of outing.  And really, for a little free zoo in our not-a-big-city town, it's pretty decent.

Here's what we saw today:  porcupine, monkeys, wallabys, emus, bald eagles, chickens (a whole bunch of different kinds!), pigs, miniatures ponies, rabbits, pygmy goats, river otters, Galapagos tortoises, prairie dogs, peacocks.  So fun.  We had a blast.  We ate our picnic while we watched the monkeys, played on the nearby playground afterwards, and even got to see the wallaby joey poking its head out of its mother's pouch--which I thought was really cool (although somewhat odd-looking).

One thing I love about this zoo is how close you can get to the animals--you can go in little tunnels to see the prairie dogs at work, and we were literally six inches from the wallabys.  It's a nice change from the more impressive zoos where you're twenty or thirty feet away from a tiger (not that I don't want to be that far from a tiger), but it's fun to get closer.  I would say our first adventure day was a resounding success!  (I certainly had a blast!)

Oh.  And if you've ever felt miserably pregnant, you will probably feel just as bad for this goat as I did.  Poor thing.  She's not due until June 2nd.

I think you guys need a pygmy goat. You can totally fit one in your backyard!

Oh that poor poor goat! She's lopsided. That little zoo is awesome!!! We have something similar here, but it has more basic animals. Not wallaby's!!! Awesome!
