random stuff

  • I have a lot of pictures but Isaac is on my lap, and I'm too lazy to bend around him to plug in the camera.
  • Juliet has been wearing a tutu all day long. She asked me to turn on music earlier so she could dance, and then she ran around like a small whirling dervish to The Nutcracker Suite. Also, she ran in circles around Isaac, who was playing on the floor. He liked watching her for about five minutes and then he started to cry. Probably from fear, because Juliet asked me to dance with her and let's face it, my coordination is not so great right now. I should be amazing at yoga tonight with my stuffed-up sinuses.
  • Today I went to the grocery store and realized something: there are people who don't eat when they are sick, and then there are people who want to eat everything when they are sick. I am one of the latter. I wanted to eat things that Normal Me would never ever ever buy in a million years. Like tater tots, which looked SO good. I was still thinking about tater tots and fake strawberry bagels all the way through the produce section, which means I completely forgot to get cilantro and avocados. (note: no tater tots came home, but I did sneak in some frozen tortellini betwixt the eggplant and spinach).
  • Here is who can take cold medicine in our house: Neil.
  • Here is who really wants to take cold medicine: Me. But I called my doctor and they said it can make your milk dry up, and I don't think Isaac would be a fan.
  • Also, I think someone should develop cold medicine for kids under age 6. Because seriously, I really want some.
  • Last night Neil told me a really sad but funny story as follows: when he was a little kid, he thought that there were horrible killer kangaroos trying to come eat him in the night. He described to me their cruel glittering eyes, their sharp pointy fangs, and their enormous claws (he said "like a T-rex"). Every so often as he was falling asleep, he would hear the soft thud of their feet on the ground until he was convinced they were right outside his window, hiding in the bushes, waiting for him to fall asleep. And then one day, after about two years of terror, he realized what made the kangaroo-thudding-feet noise: his eyelashes brushing against the pillow. Isn't that one of the saddest/funniest stories you've ever heard? I laughed a lot but I felt bad about it too.
  • Yesterday Juliet napped for three hours, at which point I woke her up. While she was napping, I spent twenty minutes playing with Isaac and Abigail, an hour and twenty-two minutes trying to get shrieking shrieking very mad Isaac to sleep, thirty-four minutes lying on my bed while Isaac slept, and the remaining time nursing very mad grumpy Isaac when he woke up. We had pancakes for dinner.
  • Isaac has been doing this awesome thing where he nurses for twenty minutes in five-second increments. Oh, how I wish I was exaggerating.
  • Currently Isaac is trying to either eat my sleeve or bang on the keys. I think he is saying, "Mom! Me! I am awake and so cute! Please disregard the fact that I threw up in your eyes last night and love me!"
  • Also, I haven't forgotten my questions-to-be-answered post. It's coming, I promise.
  • Tonight for dinner I am making salmon, rice pilaf, sugar snap peas, and caramelized brussels sprouts. But what I really want is tater tots.
  • I am going to end this post now and play Legos with the kids the rest of the afternoon and ignore my sticky Juliet-ed kitchen floor. Being sick has its perks.

I'm telling you, forget the cold medicine (since you can't have it anyway) and get a Neti pot! It's like saline squirts for grown-ups. Get those nasty bacteria out of your nasal cavity.
Also, Rosalind's been spraying her throat with Zicam. Maybe it's just a placebo effect, but it is helping. I'm fine with placebo healthiness.

Woman. Go get yourself some tater tots. I promise falling off your foodie wagon for a minute will not kill you. And your mouth will be happy.

Oh, and guess what? My teacher is doing drop-in yoga classes on Mon and Wed mornings the week of Christmas. Don't forget your mat!

I couldn't agree more about developing a cold medicine for kids. Someone could get very rich with the invention. Collin is on his second cold this month. The first lasted 2 1/2 weeks, and this one hits a week tomorrow. Yes, and that does mean he was only well for 1/2 of one week the entire month of November. I can't imagine having more sickies than just one. Good luck.
