Hiking at Solitude

During our family reunion, we decided to go for a hike up towards Lake Solitude through the ski resort. It was so fun (and weird!) hiking through the summer terrain when I'm so used to seeing it in winter with ten feet of snow over it!

Here's a shot of everyone all strung out along the trail (Mary Beth and Julie did not join us as Julie was struggling with the altitude, but all the other kids/adults did).

That picture above is just cutting into the woods off of the Main Street run.

Rosalind and I snapped this one while everyone else was taking a snack break. The wildflowers were so gorgeous in this little clearing!

Look closely at this one and you'll see that there is a child dangling from those poles (they basically just threaded them under his backpack).

Base of the Summit lift and kids who thought maybe they could just hitch a ride...

Eventually we got to the lake! Scenery wasn't too bad.

And the kids had a great time exploring the caves around the lake.

Then most of the family headed back down, but Ruth, Jordan, Rosalind, Isaac, and I decided to keep hiking for awhile. So basically then we just went UP.

Headed past the SolBright turnoff, which we used later to get back down. We basically hiked up the Dynamite run most of the way, which is a lot more fun on skis going downhill than it was on foot going uphill.

But the views were incredible!! I've never seen this lake before, it's always just frozen and covered with snow. Brighton is on the other side.

This cutie had the best time, he LOVES hanging out with adults and especially hero worships Jordan
so this was his dream day.

Looking up towards Fantasy Ridge with Honeycomb Canyon off to the right.

Ruth and Jordan in front of the trail map, looks a little different than the last time I took a photo of Ruth here..

Love this resort so much, this is where Neil taught me to ski

We hiked up Fantasy Ridge a little ways and then had a snack (it was super sketchy going up to the top with lots of loose rock so we turned around rather than summiting).

Then back down the Sol-Bright trail with a quick stop to check out the dam and spillway.

Such a fun hike and such a gorgeous day!

Here's the bird's eye view of Silver Lake at Brighton, where we were hiking the previous night.
