We left for the west after work on Friday, drove through the night, and welcomed the sunrise at Devil's Tower, Wyoming!
I took a ton of pictures on this trip but then had to delete a whole bunch because my phone was going so slowly and wouldn't take any more photos. So rather than the pictures and videos of Prairie Dog Town, here is our parked car while everyone was out looking at the prairie dogs and I turned around to take a pic of Devil's Tower in the background. Hah!
It was about forty degrees at 6 am, so we bundled up in blankets to walk the loop around the tower. During the month of June, they ask visitors not to climb either the tower or through the boulder field, since there are many indigenous tribes who come to the tower in June to complete solstice rituals. There were lots of prayer flags hung everywhere through the trees (along with signs asking people to please not photograph the prayer flags). It was a really cool thing to see and I'm glad we came in June.
It was about an hour out of our way and I think we spent 2-3 hours there--very cool and definitely worth the stop!
