After leaving St. Louis, we drove through the night until we got to our campsite in Moraine Park. We've camped there before, but this time we were in a totally new part of the campground that had an amazing glacial deposit right behind our tent and we had such a great time exploring it (pretty constantly!) while we were there!

There were a lot of things on this trip that were CRAZY and reduced me to tears more than once. It just seemed SO crazy and awful at the time! Such as...
1) Isaac stepped on a nail that was on a piece of wood buried deep in one of our flowerbeds. He didn't tell us about the nail-stepping (he knew he wasn't supposed to be walking in the flowerbeds so...) until we were already on the road, which eventually meant we had a completely frantic night in Estes Park trying to find someplace that had enough reception that we could get in touch with our pediatrician 1500 miles away, wait for her to get back to us, get an order for a tetanus shot, and then spent (literally) hours trying to find a place that would vaccinate him, because he was turning 10 in 2 weeks and so there was this whole thing with vaccinating him before he actually needed a booster, but it being super close to booster time, but doses being calibrated for a person over age 10, etc. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. The whole thing took probably three hours but felt much longer.
3) We were camped next to one of the bathrooms (like it was right next to our campsite). Matthew became completely fascinated with the bathrooms and was constantly trying to sneak away from us to go to the bathrooms so he could turn on the hand dryer. On our final night there, he managed to evade whoever was assigned to watch him and went not into the regular bathroom but in the accessible bathroom, which had a lock, and locked himself in. We had to call a park ranger to get him out, it took forever, and I was sobbing against the bathroom door by the time we unlocked it (to find a fully naked Matthew inside surrounded by a mountain of toilet paper).

But! We survived it all. And now as I'm writing this a couple of years later, we have some pretty good stories to laugh at. And lots of gorgeous pics just from the campground itself. Enjoy!

I was starting to think camping with kids sounded fun until I read this post
